Special News Bulletin
Just In:
This reporter has learned that Executive Chef Larry Abrams has left Bar West, and in the wake of this regrettable event, the menu has been left in shambles. According to Bar West manager, Mindi Haley, "Chef Abrams cuisine was upscale, and this is Pacific Beach," indicating management felt that Abram's menu was ill suited to, what they perceive as, the establishment's unsophisticated clientele. Haley went on to inform me that Stingaree Executive Chef Antonio Friscia will be designing a new menu, which should be in place by the end of the month. Upon obtaining the interim menu, which is primarily a small subset of the original, it was further divulged that, "we are currently using up existing food inventory." Stay tuned, there will be more on this to follow as the story evloves.
And there you have it. This is Captain Jack with San Diego Restaurant Reviews signing off.
Cheers
Hey CJ - Let's see if I can read between the lines...first off, we San Diegans are not sophisticated enough.... secondly, we're now getting served sloppy seconds? So it's a double insult...we're uncouth, and deserve leftovers.

Let's not be hasty, the menu is in transition. Chef Friscia has done an excellent job with Stingaree. We should reserve judgement until such time as his new menu is in place.

That is surprising. They basically did not give the place a chance... While Chef Friscia is a fantastic Chef, in my opinion, I do not see how he is going to be able to manage both kitchen and make sure that everything is executed right. Bar West was suposed to bring a little bit of downtown in PB... it seems to me that at this pace, it will become a glorified PB Bar and Grill.
I could literally write a book on why service sucks in San Diego and why customers are getting ripped off by greedy owners... but I guess that if I do that, I won't be able to work anywhere in this town :)

It is my understanding that Friscia is designing the new menu, but his current Sous Chef at Stingaree will be managing Bar West's kitchen on a day to day basis.
I'll bet you have some interesting tales to tell, but it sounds like doing so would come at too high a price.

Shoot,I was excited about Bar West perhaps being my new Modus since I moved from Mission Hills to Crown Point. Now I guess I will have to wait. Chef Abrams was great at Thee Bungalow I wonder where he will end up.

Hey jturtle,
I really liked Abrams' menu. I guess we will just have to wait and see what Chef Friscia comes up with. I hope, as was previously mentioned, that it does not turn out to be "glorified PB Bar and Grill" fare.
